凯安娜 Kelly-Futch is an MSM senior 音乐剧 major from Washington, 和Samuel McKelton一起学习. She plays the role of Nia Banks in 勿忘我 taking place October 27–29 at 河滨剧院.

凯安娜 started her performing arts journey in church, began studying voice 和 piano professionally by age 5. As a BIPOC crossover soprano, she’s worked with 奥特利音乐学校, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, 华盛顿国家歌剧院, 神舞学院, 城市变迁制作. 基安娜也是前民主党议员.C. representative of the Miss America organization.

凯安娜: In 1998, Regina the Whale washes ashore, bringing attention to a coastal town. The town is captivated by this exciting news until Pete the Journalist reopens a investigation about a murder that has haunted the community. The musical is inspired by the incident of a whale that exploded in Oregon in 1970, also by the disheartening murders by a serial killer on Long Isl和 in the 1990s. Throughout the show the community wonders what it needs to do in order to not be forgotten.
Why should people come 和 see this performance?
凯安娜: The contemporary feeling of the show is phenomenal. The audience is taken on a comedic 和 emotional roller coaster ride. Every character gets to shine in their own way 和 plays an important role in helping tell the story. 也, the musical addresses relatable themes of change 和 adversity 和 how it impacts a community in the past versus the present time. Every song, scene, detail is of value, that’s why coming to see the show is a must!
Tell us about your role in this show!
凯安娜: The role I am playing in the show is of Nia Banks. Like myself, she is an ambitious student who is very serious about her studies. She loves botany biology 和 makes an effort to plan for a safer environment for the natural world. She is one of the girls who went missing 和 was unfortunately murdered by the sea.
What are you looking forward to this year?
凯安娜: This year, I am looking forward to graduating with honors 和 continuing to grow in all my classes. I’m also looking forward to directorial leadership as a 住宅的助理 in MSM Andersen Hall 和 being 秘书 of the 黑人学生会! This spring, I will be featured in MSM’s production 九个 as Liliane La Fleur; I’ll also perform in BSU’s Black History Month Concert, APO的色彩之夜, 冬天的歌舞表演, 舞蹈表演, most importantly Senior Showcase!
What’s your favorite thing about studying at MSM?
凯安娜: 真实性受到赞扬! I’ve learned that being yourself at MSM gets you the results you want rather than trying to impersonate someone that you are not. Everyone is made differently for a reason 和 should take advantage of their strengths 和 embody them fiercely.

What piece of advice do you have for anybody interested in pursuing MT at MSM?
凯安娜: For people interested in studying 音乐剧 at MSM, be ready to work. MSM will challenge you beyond your limits 和 will help you develop your own triple-threat emerging-artist br和 in return. 保持思想开放. There is knowledge all around campus to be had. Try not to be your own worst critic. You don’t want to fall into the temptation of comparing yourself to others. Always believe that you can 和 will achieve!
What are you listening to right now?
凯安娜: I am listening to a wide playlist of my favorite songs that consists of oldies but goodies, 福音, R&B、Hip-hop等等! 我的妈妈, 谁也是我最好的朋友, tells me I have good taste in music, 还有我的播放列表, I can definitely get a party started. 如果你想散个步, 随便吃点东西, or need music suggestions for social gatherings, 让我知道. 我有你!
